Skeleton Found

“…Without you I die …”

In the “Murchison and Daydawn Times,” in 1904, was the following item:

“A skeleton of a dead man (unidentified) was recently found in the Nor’ West, about 100 yards from the road, and buried on the spot where it was found. The skeleton is that of a man, about 5ft, 10 inches high, and having what is supposed to be red hair.
“The initials, J.L.M., were found on a sleeve link near the skeleton, and also on a seal pendant which has the head of a dog on it. Another seal pendant bar found at the same spot bore the inscription, ‘sans toi je meurs,’ (translation: “without you I die”) and had the figure of a man and child on it.
“Near the skeleton were also found a gold heart with ‘Cassie’ inscribed on it, and a white silk handkerchief with J.M. in one corner, a gun metal watch, and a white metal chain with a farthing (coin) bearing the inscription, ‘good luck,’ attached.
“The man had evidently died while he was asleep. There was not a particle of flesh on the bones. The man had been dead for at least 12 months.”
