November 5:
“…pretend to be doing something…”
In the days of not so long ago when this mess was administered by the hypocrites in ATSIC (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Commission), I heard two ATSIC staff (both only slightly Aboriginal) tell a community meeting something like this: “When we drove in here this morning, everyone was just sitting around doing nothing. When you see visitors coming, you should grab a shovel or a broom and pretend to be doing something.”
“What should we be doing?” an Aboriginal councillor asked.
“Anything,” said the ATSIC bloke. “Just look as though you’re doing something.”
What cynical bastards!
Thank God ATSIC has been abandoned by the government. It was a huge waste of money and resources, a total farce, being exploited by part-bloods all over the country, largely for their own benefit. The full-blooded Aboriginal people got very little out of it.
